Sample of the Week: The Beatles – Lady Madonna

This week’s Sample of the Week bends the rules slightly, picking a song in which doesn’t technically ‘sample’ by definition but definitely draws inspiration from.

Lady Madonna, which draws inspiration and interpolation from Humphrey Lyttleton‘s Bad Penny Blues. It’s widely known that The Beatles got together by playing their favourite songs to each other (Paul McCartney played Eddie Cochran‘s Twenty Flight Rock to audition for Lennon) so it’s no suprise that these influences have seeped into their work. It’s also worth mentioning that McCartney has borrowed some of the lyrics from the age old nursery rhyme ‘Three Blind Mice’.
